As Always, The Controversy Around The Logies More Interesting Than The Logies Itself

It would be truth in advertising if they called them "The Blands". People would compete to win the Golden Bland, pictured above.

So, the Logies came and went last week. I almost missed it entirely, but there was news about someone having a nipple slip and then swearing about it. But that was about it. The Logies are a TV awards show held together by several free-to-air TV stations who don’t really trust each other but desperately want to be able to announce their programming is award winning, so on goes the banality.

As usual, the most notable thing that came out of the Logies was the ‘controversy’ around comedians tweeting things that some people found offensive. The two who got picked up are Wil Andersonhe tweeted similar things last year but was more drunk then – and Catherine Deveny – who was probably more offensive, but honestly, she’s got a one-woman show called “God Is Bullshit That’s The Good News” so she probably wasn’t going to be Miss Congeniality. Deveny was apparently fired from her columnist position at The Age for those tweets.

One one hand, tweets are public access, so you need to think about what you say because it is out loud and everyone can hear you. On the other hand, Kyle Sandilands has been much more offensive and everyone wants him on their station, so there you go.

I do appreciate a good bandwagon, however. Everyone, hop on!
